Demystifying the Admission Process of U.S. Universities

The College was greatly honoured to have an alumnus, Dr Michael Ng-Quinn (Class of ’68) as the speaker of the sixth instalment of the Alumni Talk Series entitled “Demystifying the Admission Process of U.S. Universities”. The talk was held on 20th December 2017 at the College and attended by over 70 current students, their parents, and alumni.

Dr Ng received his PhD from Harvard University, worked as a professor in the US for as many as 40 years, and served as an admissions interviewer for Harvard for seven years. In the talk, Dr Ng shared his wealth of knowledge and experience on the subject and shed light on the key considerations for admission to top higher education institutions such as Harvard. In particular, he highlighted the equal importance of the three core aspects of a successful applicant’s profile: academic excellence, extracurricular achievements and personal attributes.

It was such an insightful talk that everyone came away with a much clearer picture of what it takes to become an Ivy Leaguer.
