On 10 August 2024, the College Scouts and Venture Scouts of the 10th Hong Kong Group participated in a simulation program called “Struggle for Survival,” organized by the Crossroads Foundation. This eye-opening experience immersed our Scouts in the complexities and hopelessness of poverty.
Did you know that nearly one in ten people worldwide survive on less than USD 1.90 a day, while almost half the global population lives on less than USD 5.50? During the simulation, our Scouts worked hard to earn enough to survive by making paper bags from newspapers and homemade glue. They faced the challenge of covering basic expenses such as rent, food, sanitation, and medical needs, and, if fortunate, pursuing education. Those who couldn't make ends meet found themselves in the hands of a loan shark.
This invaluable experience has opened their eyes to the struggles faced by many in our world. As the more fortunate ones, our Scouts have been inspired to reach out and offer assistance to those in need.
